HISTORY OF THESE COTTAGES
Spencer's Cottages was originally Murray's Cottages. Murray
and Elsie Reid built the first 6 cottages to compliment their dairy farm operation.
They operated the fishing cottages and rented a few row boats for 3 decades.
It was mostly American clients that discovered the beauty and the terrific
fishing in the 1000 Islands. Beverley and Dan Spencer purchased the 6 cottages
and the main house from the Reids in 1981. Dan and Bev renovated the main
house as it was originally a 2 bedroom, very small farm house from 1849. They
also built the 2 three bedroom cottages and the boat house in the 80's. Dan
and Bev operated the cottages as Spencer's Riverfront Cottages until 1997.
Lynne and Chris purchased the business in 1997 and brought the business to
the age of the internet. They expanded the boat rental side of the business
as well as the small tackle store. The cottages have been renovated several
times over the 20 years. Most of the cottages now have decks, they all have
new kitchens, satellite or cable TV, wifi, there is a great boat launch and
8 ft. wide docking, fish cleaning facilites, and a group outdoor fireplace.
Spencer's Riverfront Cottages mainly deals with repeat clients from the USA
and Canada. We have a great bunch of fishermen who continue to come and experience
what the 1000 Islands has to offer. Spencer's is very proud of their clean,
secure, well equipped, accomodations, docking and launch ramp we provide to
fishermen and boaters.
If you love to fish or love to boat, we hope you choose to stay at Spencer's
Cottages.
